History

  • 1106 : Named Gyeongsang Jinju-do Province.
  • 1896 : Renamed Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The provincial office is located in Jinju.
  • 1925 : The provincial office is transferred from Jinju to Busan.
  • 1963 : Busan City is separated from Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
  • 1983 : The provincial office is transferred from Busan to Changwon. (Currently eight cities and ten counties)

Regional Characteristics

  • The province has a temperate climate, abundant fishery resources, and natural tourist attractions, such as Hallyeo Marine National Park, Jirisan, Gayasan, etc.
  • The industrial area in the central and eastern parts and the farming and fishing regions in the western and northern parts coexist.
